This fall, Marisa will begin her journey toward earning a doctorate in education from Northeastern University. Based on her background, she never would have considered herself a privileged researcher, but because she was raised in a country where education is not only accepted but also encouraged for someone like her, she is able to read and communicate in ways others may never comprehend.
When discussing leadership competencies, Marisa says, “Leadership is a lifestyle. Most people live our values, and those values show the world who we are. If you doubt this, look at me. I’m standing in that ‘space of possibility’ as bell hooks is quoted as saying. At one point in time, I could have gone either way. I am the choice I made.”
